SCHWARR HISTORY
Schwarr Inc. was started by Walter W. Swarr in 1953.
Walter did not start in the precast concrete business; he began by hauling stone in wooden cab trucks (Brockways) for the NJ turnpike. Walter wanted to make sure to keep his personal and business life separate. He added the "ch"in Swarr and created Schwarr Inc. in 1953. The business was first located at 2127 Lincoln Highway E. in Lancaster, PA.
1980
A man named Robert Hourigan made a deal to purchase Schwarr Inc. from Walter Swarr and hired Ned Bean to run the operations in Lancaster. Ned already having experience in the precast business and currently was running Warren Concrete located in Warren, Pa. Ned and his wife Donna relocated to Lancaster, Pa and began running Schwarr Inc.
1989
Schwarr Inc. relocated to a new facility and current location of 6 Industrial Way, Denver, PA. Schwarr also purchased the property across the street as a storage facility for the continued growth the business was having. Ned still running operations installed a new Zimmer Mixer and switched from Dry cast to Wet cast concrete.
1993
Ned Bean purchased the company from Robert Hourigan and renamed the company Schwarr Concrete Products Inc. Ned continued to own and run a very successful business for the next 25 plus years.
2022
Current President and CEO, AJ Michael purchased the company from Ned Bean on January 1, 2022 and renamed the business Schwarr Industries. AJ Michael a resident of Lancaster County for all his life was looking to acquire a manufacturing business. AJ had drove Ned's race car for over 11 years and immediately thought it would be a good fit. AJ comes from many years of business operation experience. In his last role with Kubota Tractor Corporation AJ managed large network or Kubota tractor dealers, before that was the Chief Operating Officer for a group of powersport dealerships.
